Following the government announcement this morning, Nottinghamshire (including Bassetlaw) is set to be placed under Tier 3 restrictions when the national lockdown ends on the 2nd December.

As Tier 3 is a 'Very High' alert, our staff will continue to follow the systems and procedures that we currently have in place to ensure the safety of our whole school community. Rest assured that our risk assessments are regularly reviewed and we continue to act on government guidance.

  • Staffing Update

    Mon 16 Nov 2020 Mrs H-S

As we look ahead to the Spring Term, I wanted to give you an update on our staffing for January.

Sadly, we are saying goodbye to three of our teachers: Mrs. Tamdi, Miss Tokell and Mrs. Bradford. All three teachers were appointed on short-term temporary contracts.

Mrs. Bradford will be leaving us as Mrs. Ginever returns from maternity leave. Mrs. Ginever will be our Aquila Class job share teacher as well as our PPA teacher.

Both Miss Tokell and Mrs. Tamdi have stayed with us longer than we initially planned due to the Covid-19 outbreak in March. They both stepped up to help us support key worker provision and remote learning. We value their support during such unprecedented times! In her role as Deputy Head, Mrs. Tamdi has worked with me to drive school improvement since my appointment in January.

We recently appointed two new permanent members of staff who will be joining our team in January. We are welcoming Mr. Brightman as our new Columba Class teacher and Mrs. Grierson as our new Delphinus Class teacher. Both teachers fit in with our school ethos and values perfectly.

Mrs. Grierson comes to us as an experienced teacher with a record of raising standards in core subjects and a commitment to bringing the curriculum alive. Mr. Brightman is also an experienced teacher and he has a record of raising standards in Computing which will complement our school’s approach to whole-school improvement across the curriculum.

Our staffing structure from January will be:

    Class

    Teaching Assistant - Interventions

  • Children In Need Day

    Fri 06 Nov 2020 Mrs H-S

Next Friday, Haggonfields Primary School will be supporting Children In Need Day. As part of the wellbeing theme, we will be participating in the Five to Thrive activities. Five to Thrive is a unique programme of wellbeing activities throughout the week, led by Joe Wicks, Dr Radha and Blue Peter. Inspired by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, each day we will be taking part in activities designed to help children feel better about themselves – as well as helping others.

Joe Wicks will be taking part in a 24-hour PE challenge. Our school will join him for the final 20 minutes of his workout, from 9.05am on Friday via live-stream on the Children In Need YouTube channel.

Mrs Hancock, our office manager, has kindly donated 3 Pudsey bears for a Children In Need raffle. We will enter the names of all the children who are in school on Friday in to the raffle. The winners will be drawn during our online assembly.

To get in with the spirit of the day, we are asking the children to participate in a non-uniform day by wearing sports/PE kit to fit in with the well-being theme. Children may, of course, wear Pudsey themed clothes or accessories! We are asking for a donation of £1 to fundraise for the Children In Need appeal. Any donations will be collected in a plastic tub at the start of the day.

  • Enrichment Clubs

    Fri 06 Nov 2020 Mrs H-S

We are committed to providing enrichment activities for our children. We understand the importance of being active and nurturing children’s physical, and mental, well-being. As our clubs are run by the sports provider who teach our PE sessions, our clubs will continue through lockdown.

We still have some spaces for:

    • Mondays - Year 1/2/3 Gymnastics Club
    • Tuesdays - Year 4/5/6 Archery Club
    • Fridays (lunchtimes) - Columba Class and Delphinus Class Play Fair- Basketball Club
  • The School App

    Thu 05 Nov 2020 Mrs H-S

This week, we launched a smartphone app called The School App. It has already proved successful and we can see that many of you have already downloaded and activated the app on your phone. This app gives you access to our school website and allows us to send you messages straight to your phone. The app is free to download and works with iPhones and Android phones.

  • SNMAT Letter To Parents

Thu 05 Nov 2020 Chris Moodie -CEO SNMAT

The following update, written by the CEO of SNMAT, has been sent out to our families today. It can also be found in the 'Letters' section of the website:

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to give you a general update and also to share with you some of the challenges that lie ahead.

    • Our risk assessments have been successful in keeping the overwhelming majority of academies and bubbles within them open to function in a ‘near-normal’ fashion. Staff and children have been exceptionally supportive of the new ways of working and I would like to thank all parents who have been very understanding in adapting to the new (and sometimes inconveniencing) systems. We are continually reviewing and tweaking these systems and looking for ways that we can work as safely as possible.

    • You will be aware that the government has decided that all schools will remain fully open during the second lockdown. We are very keen to support this and will do all in our power to ensure continuity of service. I am sure that you understand that there may be occasions in the coming weeks where we will have no option but to partially close classes or bubbles in response to positive tests. We will continue to follow the advice of the health authorities and headteachers will ensure that you are kept fully informed. In the event of any class or bubble closure, systems are already in place to move quickly  to remote learning.

    • Headteachers are already facing significant challenge with respect to staffing levels; academy staff are as susceptible as the rest of society to COVID-19 and the government has set out very clear quarantining / self-isolating guidelines to apply where this occurs. In addition, there are some staff who are classed as Clinically Exceptionally Vulnerable (CEV) and the government has advised anyone in this category to work at home. I would ask that you are patient with us if your child’s teacher, teachers or teaching assistants are not available because of a positive test or an instruction to self-isolate.

Please take very good care of yourselves and your loved ones. Together, we will get through this situation keeping the very best interests of your children at the centre of all that we do.

    Yours faithfully,

    Chris Moodie

Chief Executive Officer, Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham Multi Academy Trust (SNMAT)
